Last weekend we went down to the Gorge for the second time since Theo was born. On our first trip, over the 4th of July, we didn't bring our camera with us, and what's the use of blogging if I don't have any pictures to show?
We drove over I-90 then down through Yakima and Goldendale. This route is barely justifiable this time of year, as the sailing tends to be west or central Gorge, but the drive is so spectacular that it's worth the extra 45 minutes or so. Highlights are Snoqualmie Pass, seeing Guye Peak devoid of snow; the high desert corralled between the Manastash and Umtanum ridges between Ellensburg and Selah; the Yakima valley, green cultivation rising to cut to brown sharply at the elevation of the ditch; climbing out of the Yakima Valley and then dropping into the empty Indian Reservation; and most of all the green Klickitat contrasting with the surrounding amber hills, with Mount Adams in the distance before dropping suddenly through basalt cliffs to Maryhill.
Theo does great in the Tomato. He was mostly asleep, or quietly contemplating the changing world outside. We think he gets bored if he spends too much time in the same place. He sleeps well in the van as well, hanging out in his car seat up front while we sleep above.
